Parents of Black Children (PoBC) Canada has launched The Sankofa Framework for Dismantling Anti-Black Racism in Ontario’s Education System — the province’s first comprehensive tool to identify, measure, and address anti-Black racism in schools. Developed with support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation and shaped by Black parents, students, educators, and community leaders, the Framework provides practical standards, data-collection guidance, and accountability tools to transform systemic inequities affecting Black students.

This community-led Framework responds to decades of documented harm, moving institutions beyond symbolic commitments and toward measurable, transparent action. It is part of PoBC’s broader, province-wide inquiry into anti-Black racism in education — an inquiry grounded in Black leadership and driven by the lived experiences of students and families who have long faced racial violence, disproportionate discipline, streaming, and systemic neglect.

For years, PoBC and partnering Black-led organizations have sounded the alarm and pushed for meaningful change. With the launch of the Sankofa Framework, the community is declaring: enough is enough. The voices and experiences of Black students will not be silenced, and this work marks a critical step toward transformative accountability in Ontario’s education system.
